Unfortunately, my tools won't let me resize DDS files, that's also why I asked if you kept the original PNG files. So I think those font textures should be made smaller I'm sure there will be no visible difference anyway. The same stutter also happens (almost) every time you speak to someone and the font pops up. is always in the beginning when there's the title screen and the you get the stutter when the 'Press A + B' font pops up. Those are not shader cache stutters which go away after the first time, those are custom texture stutters and they always happen with those giant textures (even with DDS) of small stuff like fonts, actually. It's only short dips to 58-59 FPS but it's enough to make a noticable stutter, especially through the sound. The only thing I noticed: Even with my computer (which should be over average ATM) I have little performance dips. And also pretty nicely! I was a little skeptical when I read someone would continue razius' work, but you did a great job, there. I just played the honey hive galaxy and it seemed like everything was retextured. Man, you have put a lot of work into this. I hope you enjoy the mod, please feel free to leave feedback and suggestions etc. I will continue to be as active as I can here and keep updates going. I'm sure I forgetting a few things but that sums it up pretty well so far. The mod has been converted to the new texture formats I have begun replacing the level preview screens that show up in the upper right when selecting a galaxy eventually all to be complete, currently all galaxies in the 1st dome and a few other galaxies are completed Gradients on the horizon now smooth and no more "stair case effect". More characters (all Mario suits excluding the boo suit which is to come, Luigi, Toad, and more to come) and enemies re-textured. About 70-80% of the environment is now re-textured The Wii mote instruction screens for all motion controlled gesture tutorials Mario Galaxy Logo when starting the game and at end credits These large sizes will keep this mod looking good into the 4K monitor era. The resolution of the textures: Most are 2048x20x1024, however the font and hud elements and some backgrounds get as large as 4096x4096. dds format combined with Ishiiruka Dolphin's fast texture loading and built in mipmap utilization allows for the smoothest play experience possible while using these textures at their full resolution. When first running the game you may get small stutter as the shader cache is built, however once the shader cache is built the stutter should be gone, or at the least extremely minimized. Again, I personally recommend using Ishiiruka Dolphin to play without stutter. To use the mod you must use a version of Dolphin that supports the new texture format. the mod will work on any Dolphin version that supports the new texture format however not Ishiiruka Dolphins will have stutter that is typical with heavy HD texture mods and Dolphins. This new dds format combined with any version of Ishiiruka Dolphin that supports the new texture format will allow you to experience the mod as close as possible to, if not completely, stutter free! (depending on specs I would imagine). In addition to that, I have converted the mod to DDS with DXT compression maintaining high resolutions (in some cases higher to maintain quality). **Note** The mod has been completely converted to the new texture naming format. So that takes a huge piece of sky, so we have in that respect, a very different telescope design. What we’re trying to do with Kepler is take in a large piece of the sky so that we have enough stars to do our planet search, and we need to monitor a hundred thousand stars like our sun. We have a different challenge with Kepler. The Hubble Telescope is built that way, the Spitzer Telescope. James Fanson: Most telescopes, either on the ground or in space, are designed to look at very distant, very faint objects, and get as magnified a view as possible. Jesse Carpenter: So Jim, what makes the Kepler telescope different from other telescopes? I want to start by saying congratulations on a successful launch. Welcome to everyone and thank you for joining us. And from Ball Aerospace, we have Kepler Program Manager John Troeltzsch. Also from NASA JPL, we have Kepler Deputy Project Manager Peg Frerking. Joining us in our studio is Kepler Project Manager James Fanson from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena California. Today we have three Kepler project team members who are here to discuss the unique attributes of the Kepler Space Telescope. Launched in March of 2009, the Kepler space telescope will observe one area of the universe continuously for a period of four years in its mission to identify the presence of planets that are similar to Earth. Hi, I'm Jesse Carpenter and you're listening to a podcast about NASA’s Kepler Mission from the NASA Ames Research Center. Jesse Carpenter: NASA’s Kepler Mission, a unique space telescope. Vegan block butter and flax egg replace eggs and butter to make this vegan. Under poached pears means they will remain hard in the tart, and over poached pears will become mushy while baking. Getting the poaching just right is important because we cook them again when baking the pear tart. To enhance the flavour of the pears after poaching, leave them in the syrup overnight. To begin with, the pears should be just ripe, not under ripe or over ripe. The poached pears cooked to perfection makes this pear tart over the top delicious and luxurious. However, in order to make my base gluten free I have used gluten-free oat flour. Tarte bourdaloue consists of pears and frangipane or almond cream. It has its origins in a pastry shop located on Rue Bourdaloue in Paris, where it was created by a Parisian pastry chef in the 19th century. Indeed, you would find it almost everywhere in the French capital. Tarte Bourdaloue is a classic french pear tart from Paris. Even if your neighbor is installing a refrigerator, and so are you, you’ll most likely need a different wire gauge. Wire size depends on the current and the length of the wire. How do I calculate what size wire I need?Ĭhoosing the correct wire size is crucial for safety hazards and performance issues of the system. In some cases where 14-gauge wiring is more appropriate, users have used 12 gauge instead since it’s easier to work with and it costs less than premium 14 gauge wiring. Most household guides online will suggest using 14-gauge wiring for 15 amp circuits, 12-gauge wiring for 20 amp circuits, and 10-gauge wiring for 30 amp circuits. It's an amperage that you’d have to worry about when it comes to wiring size and power. The system’s voltage has no bearing on the wire’s size, but the voltage does dictate the quality of a wire’s insulation. COMMON FAQS Does voltage matter for wire size? Sometimes, it is safer to use a 12V system if you intend to run appliances directly from batteries, as it’s at a safer voltage for DC circuits. Domestic systems, such as telephone equipment and controllers, work on 12V systems. The disadvantage of having a 24V supply is that not all appliances operate on this system. 24V supplies are more compatible with AC appliances. Having a 24V system is that it dramatically reduces the wiring cost to almost half the original price. It may seem like we favor 24V systems always, but there are benefits to 12V systems. The cost difference is not much, and you’ll save power in the long run by using the 24V wire size recommendations instead of the 12V unless you’re strapped for money. Here is a table of 10-foot long silicon wire costs for reference from BNTechGo:Īs you’re able to see, after 16 gauge, if you would like thinner wire sizes, there is no price difference until 22 gauge, and even after that, the price stays the same to go narrower.Īccording to the wire size tables above, our recommendation is to go with the thickest cable within your budget. A silicon wire is the most typical type, but you can also buy parallel silicon, silicon ribbon, multicore silicone, PVC, or magnet wires, depending on what’s best for you. If you buy any thinner, such as 18 or 20 gauge, you may not be able to supply the target with enough power.įrom there, the type of wire depends on what’s suitable for your system. Generally speaking, 24V is much cheaper than 12V because 12V system requires thicker cables to carry the amperage load, and copper wires are NOT cheap.įor example, if you have a 12V system, you’re expecting a current of 3 amps, and you’d like a 25-foot wire, you’ll want a minimum wire gauge of 16 gauge. The cost of wiring entirely depends on the length, the type, and the size of wiring that you’d like. Just follow the two charts below for the appropriate wire gauge size for the corresponding amperages: Minimum Wire Gauge Size for 12 Volts For systems that have wires that are less than 5 feet in length, there’s barely a difference in using any sort of wire for a given amperage, but for wires that go from 25 feet to 500 feet in length, you have to know which size wire is the right one for you. It would be a lot harder since air would start to show resistance pretty quickly as it travels through the straw. Imagine that you’re blowing up a balloon with your mouth: it would be effortless to fill that balloon up, right? Now imagine blowing through a 100-foot long straw. In most cases, a 24V system is better than a 12V system because it's cheaper, here is why: WHAT SIZE WIRE SHOULD I USE FOR 12V AND 24V? Mathematically, the heat wasted is proportional to the square of the resistance multiplied by the current-the losses on a 24V battery would be half of what they would be on a 12V battery. The amperage causes heating which means that your entire system will get hot, which wastes usable power. If you have 40 amps, for example, from a 12V battery, you’ll end up with 480 Watts, but with a 24V battery, you’ll have 720 Watts, which is double what you had before. Power is mathematically described as voltage multiplied by the amperage. For electric vehicles, you’ll need more power from the battery to feed into the motor, which turns into energy. Think about a car: if you want that car to get up to 60 mph fast, you’ll need more horsepower in the engine. When it comes to voltage and amperage, the more voltage you have in a system, the better the system will run in most scenarios. Let’s jump into it! VOLTAGE AND AMPERAGE BREAKDOWN We’ll also discuss some common, frequently asked questions about wire sizes, voltages, and other related topics. There are many uses for each type of wire and savings that can be applied with different wiring sizes that we will talk about. This guide will discuss the difference between 12v and 24v wire sizing and the cost comparison between the two. We used Tall Shot Glasses for this recipe. This is where the Red hot Candy Flavor comes from) This delicious shot is a beautiful blend of these two drinks.
Unfortunately, this new technology brings with it a significant increase in motherboard costs. Ryzen’s older PCIe 4.0 and DDR4 technologies can seem a little outdated in comparison. With the release of the new Alder Lake processors, Intel provides full support for PCIe 5.0 and DDR5. If you are gaming, this won’t be an issue for you since you’ll want a decent graphics card anyway. However, the rest of AMD’s Ryzen lineup does not support integrated graphics at all. Ryzen does have a few models with integrated graphics, most notably the Ryzen 5 5600G and the Ryzen 7 5700G APUs. If you’re looking for a processor with integrated graphics, then Intel is going to be the ideal CPU for you. Intel has reduced its CPU prices across the board and is now in line with AMD’s Ryzen price point. Ever since the Ryzen series was released, Intel has been going head-to-head with AMD to stay on top. Since AMD has always been known for its economical yet subpar CPUs, Intel was always seen as the superior force. While Intel was stuck on the older 14nm process and Skylake architecture, AMD revamped its whole lineup with a new, more powerful, and power-efficient series of processors. Intel led the processor market for years thanks to AMD’s lower-quality processors.ĪMD truly redefined our expectations for processors when they released the new Zen-based architecture. AMD’s “Bulldozer” architecture was defined by having a high number of cores, but the power consumption and price-to-performance ratio were terrible. While performance differences between Intel and AMD stemmed mainly from their radically different approaches to architecture over the past ten years, the Ryzen lineup from AMD challenges previously held standards. Intel has been in the processor business for quite a while, and the past decade has brought us amazing increases in processing power thanks to this rivalry. What’s the Difference Between Ryzen and Intel? That’s why we have brought you nothing but the facts to help you make an informed decision. Some may tell you that Intel is better than Ryzen or vice versa without knowing the facts. If you’re stuck trying to select a processor configuration, you may get confusing advice. AMD now has very competitive processors, and Intel may not be the ultimate leader anymore. The performance and price disparity between Intel and AMD used to make Intel a clear winner and an obvious choice. But with the release of the new Ryzen series processors from AMD, all of that changed. Everyone knew that Intel was the leader when it came to gaming performance. Intel has always been the go-to source for the fastest processors. But what is the difference between Intel and Ryzen? Is one really better than the other? That’s what we’re going to talk about in today’s article. If you’re looking to buy a new gaming laptop or build a PC, you have probably seen the choices for CPU: Intel or Ryzen. In the other corner is AMD, with its lineup of powerful Ryzen processors, the 3000, 5000, 7000, and 9000 series CPUs. In one corner, you have Intel, with their flagship Core i-series processors: The Core i3, i5, i7, and i9. Intel: The battle has been raging on now for over three decades between the biggest processor makers in the world. Ryzen vs Intel: A Decades-long Battle of the Processors Ryzen and Intel CPUs offer similar performances, but Intel is best for gaming.

One of his backing band members looked outright prepubescent. When they walked onstage one of my festival-going pals asked, "I wonder if they came here with parental supervision?" Well, prepare to feel old - Archy himself was born in 1994 and looks even younger than his true age, only augmented by his severely oversized button-up shirt. By appearances only, Archy Marshall and his band seemed more suited for a high school talent show. I arrived at the stage only a few minutes before he began, and by that time the crowd was only five or six people deep and tired festival-goers were able to spread out a blanket and lay down well in front of the stage's sound booth. Lisa WhiteĬhances are you missed King Krule's set over at the Blue Stage because it seemed the entire festival forgot about him. More akin to a DJ set, things got mixed up towards the end when Chicago MC wunderkind Chief Keef took to the stage to perform two tracks including his overnight sensation hit "I Don't Like." After the set ended, backstage a mob of people crowded around Keef to get their photo taken, clearly showing the hype surrounding the young rapper who stole the end of the show. He DJed a literal drum and bass heavy set, the beats shaking through the crowd as he pounded hard on his drum machine, a video letting the crowd witness his skill in creating layers of sound with the flick of a wrist and the heavy tap of a finger. Lisa WhiteĪraabMuzik might win the award for loudest set of the weekend, as I felt his bass beats vibrate off the trees towards the back of the field. OK, so you have a famous fan and got a pretty sweet record deal, but it still feels like Lamar has a bit more polishing to go before proving his worth and staying power. Halfway through his set the reports flooded Twitter that Lady Gaga was watching, and suddenly a large portion of people were too busy craning their neck to fame watch to really notice a lackluster set. His voice sounded rough around the edges, and his between song stage banter needs some work. His laid back, chill West Coast style was ever apparent, but his flow didn't seem nearly as solid as his recorded material. Sadly Kendrick Lamar didn't do much to change my mind, with a late start, a bit too much hyping, and a somewhat sloppy set. Granted Clams Casino, AraabMuzik and Flying Lotus were some of the stand out sets of weekend, but as far as actual rappers go, I found myself missing the G-Side, Das Racist and Freddie Gibbs of years past. Compared to the impressive sets of hip hop the past two years at Pitchfork, I felt this past weekend that the offerings of rappers were pretty weak besides the rowdy Southern set of Big K.R.I.T. Anyway, I'm sure others will be able to fill you in. Some of those who I rubbed shoulders with year ago are probably either retired or passed on. But it would have been good money had I enjoyed it enough to really pursue it.Īs for what people are charging for a tuning, how to set up the business end of it, stuff like that, I'm a relic and wouldn't have a lot of useful info. I never really liked tuning all that well despite being told I should have worked towards perhaps "tuning examiner". But I did find out that tuning was where the "bread and butter" was. I used to love belly work, hence the handle. Hang out a while, it will become apparent. It's not always obvious who those are at first. I've been a part of enough to realize that sometimes you'll find a struggling group that may not have as high a skill level as you may have hoped while others may have techs who've forgotten more than I've ever known. You may have opportunities to connect with local chapter members who will mentor you in some fashion. Learn as much as you can! Even if you don't intend on rebuilding pianos on your own, having the experience of some of the deeper aspects of it give your knowledge more depth than someone who's only read about it. It probably won't pay nearly as well as tuning out on your own but you can get some good experience! If they happen to have a rebuilding shop associated with them, there might be opportunities there, too. If you have a piano store near you, you might have an opportunity for experience, especially tuning. Conventions are a wonderful thing, including the classes! Take advantage of all of that as much as you can. Of course every group has their sour lemons, but you'll find some really good people that are a part of the PTG. I was discouraged early on from joining and missed out on some really good interactions from the start. If you wanna become great at something, hang out with people who are great at it. Good move! The connections you make there will be great. I notice you have intentions of joining the PTG. I've been out of this kind of work for a long time so don't have a lot of current info. If I start to find consistent business and success I would then take a hard looking at making the full career change.Īgain, any insights, thoughts, etc. If I find I enjoy the trade, I would start slowly doing work on my weekends and begin building a client base. Perhaps do some apprenticing with local shops and see how comfortable I feel. Simply put, I'm trying to do my due diligence and learn as much as I can before I make any serious moves.įWIW my "plan" is to start studying the craft, join the PTG, and find a local mentor. I would be grateful if anyone would like to share insights into how they got started in this profession, what you love and what you don't, and the challenges and rewards of running your own business. Does anyone have experience with this program, or any other recommendations for programs to explore? I have started to explore resources through the PTG website, and one that caught my attention was the Piano Technician Academy. Unfortunately, on-site/in-person programs are not possible given my current situation so I am looking at online study options. I had a conversation with my tech a few weeks ago about this and he was very supportive, even offering to help with enrollment at North Bennett Street School. If we look at the minimum wage in Thailand, which is ฿300 Thai Baht per day, earning a minimum of ฿1,500 Thai Baht per piano tuning job is great for 3 hours of work. After a decade of working in the hospitality/service industry I am seriously contemplating a career change and learning the trade of a piano technician. That is about $50 – $100 US Dollars per job. Since my business is based in Bangkok, Thailand, I will use the Thai Currency Unit (Thai Baht).Ī piano tuner can earn somewhere between ฿1,500 – ฿3,000 per piano tuning appointment of 3 hours. I will give a bird’s eye view only from the “Piano Tuning” side of the business. My answer to this question is quite simple and also based on my own business of piano services. How much do you earn?Ī question frequently asked. Otherwise, they will be either a “Piano Tuner” or a “Piano Repairman”. Therefore, you can categorize someone as a “Piano Technician” only if he or she can do both jobs. A good-quality piano tuner that can also do piano repairs is very difficult to find. However, not all technicians are able to do both. A qualified piano technician must be able to perform both repairs and piano tuning. A piano technician repairs and tunes pianos. |
